Learning how to time manage is one of the most important things you can do as an entrepreneur. It’s also something that many entrepreneurs struggle with, even in the early stages of their business.
Running a business means there are always new tasks coming in, and old ones going out. You will be spending lots of time working, so it becomes crucial to organize your time efficiently.
You don’t want to spend all your time doing nothing, but you also don’t want to leave any waste by not using your time effectively. This could mean waiting for someone else to finish their work or planning ahead to avoid having to start working on a task right away.
Time is a valuable resource that every successful businessman has learned to use wisely.
Practicing time management isn’t just about being able to see what you have left after completing a job, it’s also about how much money you have saved due to more efficient scheduling.
As an entrepreneur, you will need to know how to prioritize and allocate your time accordingly.
Prioritizing refers to deciding which tasks are more important than others. For example, marketing is usually considered more important than writing a diary entry.
Allocating time means figuring out how to best use your time when you already have jobs to do.
Try to be consistent with your time management

If you need help managing your time, try using a diary to note down all of your tasks and when you should have completed them. This way, you can quickly see how many hours you have left and choose the most efficient ways to spend them.
Make it a priority
Now that you have identified your time wasters, it is time to make changes to remove their influence from your life. You will need to be firm with yourself about this as some changes may require more effort than others.
For example, if you find that you spend most of your day waiting for things to finish before moving onto the next task, then you will need to learn how to manage your tasks faster so that they are completed in a shorter amount of time. This can be done by using start timers or creating milestones for each task.
You also must recognize bad habits when they occur so that you can avoid them in future. For instance, if you know that you tend to check Facebook frequently during work hours, then you should place an end date on this at a specific time every week. If you do not comply with this, then you risk being dismissed!
Hopefully you will now realize that time management is something that needs to be practiced and enforced consistently. It will take some time to see results but eventually you will feel more organized and relaxed due to this.
A few years ago, I heard a very interesting theory about time. It’s called “time compression.” According to this theory, our perception of time actually slows down as we get older.
We feel like we have more time because we don’t remember the length of each day or week, but instead, we perceive them both as being long. This is why people who are in their twenties seem to spend an absurd amount of time on social media- they think it will still be around when they’re thirty!
The thing is, technology makes it easy to keep up with things. You can stay connected virtually anywhere at any time. Plus, you can add apps that do everything from checking your email to keeping you organized.
But if you want to focus only on those important projects that require your full attention, you need to learn how to say no to things.
You have to make space for yourself — physically, emotionally, and intellectually. If you start doing that, not only will you enjoy what you put into your life, but you’ll also find that you have more time left over.
Settle down and get tasks done
The first step in time management is to establish some formalized procedures for getting work done. This can be creating an efficient schedule, organizing your workload, or establishing routines for completing projects.
Having deadlines for important projects helps you stay focused since there’s a natural motivating force attached to them. It also creates pressure that can push you towards doing other things you’ve been putting off for long enough!
In addition to having deadlines, you should also have milestones and re-evaluations of how well you’re meeting those deadlines. If you don’t, then it may be hard to determine if everything is going according to plan.
Time isn’t something we always have so being able to recognize when you need to devote additional resources to a project is very valuable. Re-evaluating whether you are on track can help you find ways to make changes or give you a chance to reset before needing more attention.
Multitasking is not good
Now, before we get into how to stop multitasking and practice time management, it is important to understand what kind of task you should be doing at a given time.
Doing something that requires your full attention means it’s priority one (or top level) work. These are tasks like writing an essay or editing a piece of writing you have just finished.
Priority two works can be done with less than full concentration, but still to a reasonable standard. For example, answering the phone while working through your diary for next week.
Boring jobs like checking emails and responding to messages are lower priorities, as they do not require much effort.
Practicing time management does not mean only doing high priority work, it also means learning how to say no to low priority work so you have time for higher ones. You will need to learn this if you want to keep developing in your career.
Finish what you start
“I always tell myself that I will do my best to get things done today, but then I don’t,” says Jessie, a twenty-something student in her second year at university.
She makes this observation every day after school. She notices it during lectures when she doesn’t listen or watch the lesson and then feel bad about herself. She notices it while she is studying and then she leaves the study because she can’t seem to concentrate.
During free time she finds herself surfing the internet instead of doing something active like swimming or taking a walk. Then she feels tired and unproductive later in the evening.
It takes a lot of effort for young people these days to stay focused. A huge part of this has to do with technology. Technology helps us communicate, access information and entertain ourselves, so using them effectively is good. But overusing them can become an issue if they distract us from other activities.
Practicing time management includes keeping distractions to a minimum by being conscious of how you use your tools (phone, computer, etc.). This may mean leaving some products alone until you have enough motivation to use them. Or maybe you’ll need to find ways to block out the same amount of time each week to focus exclusively on one activity.
Declutter your environment
A less important factor in time management is keeping an organized work space or “office” as they call it. While having these things like-new clothes, snacks, and water can help you feel more prepared for workplace trips, none of those really matter unless you have enough time to use them.
Having extra money also does not guarantee more time because even with a budget, you will still need to eat and drink. Even though it may seem trivial, leaving the house without proper preparation is a way to waste time. You should consider how much time you spend at home before planning whether to stay there or look for other alternatives.
Some ways to practice time management are reducing the amount of time spent at work, limiting access to technology, and using the off times effectively. All three of these depend on what types of jobs you have and how well you manage your workloads so that you do not overextend yourself.
Take up a hobby
A good time management tip is to take up a hobbies or activities you enjoy doing. Doing something that you love will help you focus more on it, as you’ll be spending your time on it looking forward to it, instead of having it force upon you during times when you should have been working on other things.
A good way to start investing in yourself is by buying a new gadget or learning a new skill. Buying a new smartphone can easily cost over $500 so don’t spend all day Sunday trying to decide!
You can make money spinning your own web show or starting an e-commerce site, both of which require some form of technology. If you are already quite tech savvy, then why not get creative?
Start investing in yourself by giving yourself a goal to achieve a new skill or pick up an activity that has nothing to do with work or studies. It could be reading for two hours every Saturday, going to a gym session once a week, or even just taking a stroll around the neighborhood outside your home.
Whatever you choose, try to do it for at least one minute per day and see what progress you make.
